　　三月阳光明媚的北京初春大洋洲篮球大赛激战新西兰女队勇夺第一，青苗国际双语学校顺义校园小学部的孩子们迎来了一次同澳大利亚的知名作家和评论家Ken Spillman博士近距离接触的好机会！

　　小苗苗的专属故事会

　　低年级的小苗苗们得到了一场自己专属的有趣故事会，其他悟空体育年级的孩子们则齐聚在小学部图书馆，聆听Ken用绘声绘色的语言讲述《Jack Series》中小主人公的有趣经历，生动的阅读方式，夸张的肢体语言，让孩子们时而大笑，时而惊呼，始终沉醉其中。

　　小苗苗的十万个为什么

　　故事会之后的分享会上，已经提前阅读过Ken博士作品的学生们也拿出事先准备好的问题，在现场向博士提问，从有关写作的 “为什么当初要写杰克系列的书呢大洋洲篮球大赛激战新西兰女队勇夺第一？”“写一本书需要多久？”，到充满童真的“为什么作家什么都知道？”，一直到涉及哲学思考的 “书中的动物为什么会死，死后它们会去哪里？”Ken博士同每一个提问的孩子打招呼，并认真就他们的每一个问题进行解答。

　　小苗苗都是天生的艺术家

　　Ken博士还告诉小朋友们他们每一位都是天生的艺术家。连世界知名的艺术大师毕加索都说过他花了一辈子学习怎样像孩子那样画画。Ken博士提醒孩子们为了保护自己与生俱来的创造力和想象力，孩子们有责任不断通过阅读来保持自己的天赋。Ken博士将创造力和想象力比喻成一个大大的热气球，将阅读比喻为热气球不断补充气体的源泉，他鼓励孩子们只要他们不断阅读，创造和想象的热气球就可以保持不断飞翔的动力，将他们带至创造与想象的新视界！

　　无阅读，不想象！无阅读，不创造！相信Ken博士的这一次校园来访必定为青苗的小苗苗们带来不少有益的启发！

　　Ken Spillman博士是澳大利亚最富有才气和最多产的作者、编辑和评论家之一，至今已著有不同领域图书共计35本。其儿童文学代表作《杰克系列》，自2009年问世以来，取得了巨大的成功，陆续在亚洲、欧洲、大洋洲、北美洲出版上市。至今Spillman博士已经为澳大利亚、中国、印度、印尼、马来西亚、阿曼、菲律宾和新加坡的数万学生带去了丰富有趣的活动。

　　Our primary students were excited to welcome Dr. Ken Spillman, an acclaimed Australian writer, editor and critic, to our BIBS Shunyi Campus on a sunny and warm spring day in Beijing last week.

　　Ken is a well-known prolific author and has written many books for children and young adults. Our BIBS young starters were treated to exclusive story-telling sessions by Ken in their classrooms. Elder students gathered at the elementary library and enjoyed listening to Ken’s reading and talking of Jake’s adventures in his popular "Jake series."

　　Ken was also happy to answer on site many of the questions raised by BIBS’s curious young learners. Some asked him why he wrote the Jake Series and how long it usually takes him to finish a story. Some were curious about why authors know everything. Some others were wondering why characters in the books die and where they might go after death. Ken took each and every question seriously and answered all of them by sharing his unique thoughts and experience.

　　In addition to story-telling, Ken also shared with BIBS young learners his writing tips. He encouraged all students to cherish and maintain the power of imagination which they were born with through constant reading. He compared reading as a never-ending source of inspiration and momentum to keep their balloons of imagination flying high. That is really a valuable tip for all!

　　A big thank you also goes to Ms. Bec Taylor, our book-loving elementary teacher and librarian, for organization of this author visit which allowed Dr. Ken Spillman to spend an afternoon at BIBS Shunyi and proved to be enormously popular with our students.

　　Dr. Ken Spillman is one of Australia’s most versatile and prolific authors, editors and critics. He is the author of more than 35 books spanning many genres.

　　Ken’s Jake series for younger readers has enjoyed remarkable success since 2009, and now appears in around a dozen countries across Asia, Europe, Oceania and North America. His adventure series, The Absolutely True Fantasies of Daydreamer Dev is also attracting many fans in India.

　　An entertaining and inspiring speaker, Ken has presented sessions to many tens of thousands of schoolchildren in Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Oman, Philippines and Singapore.
